Diagnose and Repair for your Wifi problems

I recently wrote about the problems I encountered with my Wifi connection and Windows Vista (post here).
The solution
Thanks to Ben on his suggestion to hit the “Diagnose and Repair” link on the left side of the Network screen to solve Wifi problems because it just saved me a lot of time.
Below are the screenshots when starting to repair your connection until it gets resolved.
Sure I am happy “diagnose and repair” could easily solve my connectivity issues; but I hope Window Vista could instead automatically solve the problem.

Well, i had the same problem. It’s like this: it detects wireless connection, connects, for hours then after awhile it said low connectivity (i’m not far from the router) then it disconnects and can’t detect any mor wireless network in the range.
Diagnose and Repair does not help. Any opinions?
i download the updates from HP.com (i’m using HP laptop). everything done. the limit i set to my router per computer accesing is forever. so i don’t know what to do with this problem.
I recently got a new Acer Aspire 4520 with Vista pre-installed on it. At first I was able to use the wireless internet anywhere in my house. Then it began to disconnect and reconnect on its own after a half hour or so. Now suddenly it can’t even connect because of poor signal when a different laptop with XP can get a strong signal no problem anywhere around my house.
This is a HUGE problem with Windows Vista. I have researched this issue countless hours over countless weeks trying to find a solution and here is what I have come up with… MICROSOFT, YOU NEED TO FIND A SOFTWARE FIX.
I have 3 computers in the house — 2 are laptops (1 is HP, running Windows XP PRO, 1 is ACER, running Windows VISTA)— both laptops connect to the wireless internet connection perfectly. The third computer, is a Gateway GT5426E computer, less than a year old, and has CONSTANT problems with connecting and STAYING connected to the internet, although the signal strength is PERFECT, and everything that it goes through and diagnoses and repairs says there is NO problem.
Here’s what I’ve found… the ACER laptop (only 1 month old) has Internet Management utility software — Acer Empowered — and through this software, it FINALLY asks for the WEP 128bit encrypted code to be entered BEFORE connecting is attempted.
On my Gateway, I do NOT get anything that asks for and then registers the actual encrypted code BEFORE it attempts to connect. It just says that is connects. It does NOT even look for such an encryption code. It acts as though the connection is wide open and connects (falsely). Again, the utility that is supposed to FIX THIS ISSUE, is not looking for the right thing. You can plug in the encryption code a million times after the fact and run “diagnose and repair” — but it is NOT accepting the code BEFORE the connection attempt.
I believe that everyone out there who is unnable to fix this issue is hitting this problem. There is NOTHING DEFAULT in Windows Vista nor in the recent upgrades that FIXES THIS PROBLEM.
Does the solution lie in Internet Connection Utility Software that DOES NOT EXIST for most models of computers???
ALL VISTA running machines need an alternative — such as the Acer Empowerment Internet Management Utility software that came with our very recently purchased ACER laptop — which asked for things in the correct order.
Anyone out there to actually fix this? Will Microsoft do anything about this? Or will consumers, such as myself, return perfectly good computers back to the places we bought them—through NO FAULT of the manufacturer — but because the OS is shoddy?

You actually posted about the automatic diagnose and repair function like it really does anything other than ipconfig /release /renew, disconnect and reconnect.
You shouldn’t really be allowed on the internet if you think that’s cutting edge technology. Why don’t you just learn how it works instead and have it take half the time to fix?
Learn2computers or GTFO the internet.
I use Vista and ever since I’ve had a terrible connection to my wi-fi which works well on XP laptop. When i do diagnose repair, each time it’s a different problem or it just doesn’t work! Don’t know what to do!
Has anyone found a solution to this? I am seeing this same problem with several variations of the X61 model.
i have a gateway model no. w3501. it gets hooked to the wireless alright but for sometime the system freezes and i can not do anything unless i restart the machine.
wtf !!!!! i m searching for a solution 2 weeks already !!
