Did Yankees-Sox Fight Lead to Murder?

We take a lot of potshots at the Steinbrenners and the New York Yankees because we consider it our civic New England duty to keep up the Sox-Yankees rivalry. Despite the trash-talking, it’s all in good fun for us and 99.9% of the fans for both teams.
But a scary thing happened north of the border this weekend. Ivonne Hernandez of Nashua, NH struck pedestrians Matthew Beaudoin and Maria Hughes with her car . . . on purpose. Beaudoin later died of his injuries. (Thanks to devoted reader Caesar for the heads-up).
Hernandez has been charged with second degree murder, aggravated driving while intoxicated, and reckless conduct.
Authorities are staying mum, but the rumor is that Sox fans Beaudoin and Hughes were harrassing Hernandez about her Yankees bumper sticker. Did this provoke the incident? One would hope such a combination of coldness and stupidity resulting in a young man’s death wasn’t the result of a baseball rivalry but sadly, one never knows. Yikes.
