Digg Compatibility Score Guilts You Into Digging More

Digg Moar N00b!

I got into the beta for the new Digg Recommendation Engine. Aside from recommending stories from Diggers like you, it also lists the Diggers most like you and scores your compatibility with them.

Imagine my disappointment at discovering that I shared so very little in common with other Diggers. The highest compatibility rating I could get with any Digger, in any category, was a paltry 10%. Meanwhile, Muhammad Saleem is showing off his awesome 59% compatibility.

You can interpret a low Digg compatibility score two ways: either you’re a maverick who doesn’t think like anyone else on Digg, or you’re a laggard who doesn’t Digg enough to show any compatibility with any other Digger. Conversely, a high Digg compatibility score means you’re either prolific or hiveminded.

Alas, I cannot use the maverick excuse: having Dugg only 31 items in the last 30 days, I simply need to Digg more. Guilting casual Diggers into feeling incompatible way may prove an unexpected side effect of Digg compatibility scores. Note to self: Digg moar n00b!

Wonder how high can any two Diggers’ compatibility score can go. If it ever hit 100% — if you met your Digg doppelganger — would the universe explode?
