Ding Long is from China. It is amazing how close his name is to my nickname! :) That ought to bring on the comments.

Ding can kick, err, long.

Or is that, Long can kick long.

The NFL wants to get in China. Some marketing guy said, “Hey, we can make this work!”

Yep, the NFL is going to play in China and wanted someone from China on the team. Someone for the Chinese fans to identify with.

China is a huge market and has millions of new consumers. They have never had extra money before and it is burning a whole in their pockets. Believe me the NFL has noticed.

The Chinese athletes Gao Wei, Ding Long and Shen Yalei are being Americanized. For the past five weeks they have lived here in western Oregon. They have combed the malls, learned to love diner food, studied English and adopted the Westernized names William, Rambo and Sean — all in an effort to become the first Chinese to play in the United States’ most popular sports league, the National Football League. source

William, Rambo, and Sean? Rambo? You gotta wonder who is helping them out.

Anyway, the NFL realizes that there is not much more room for growth in the USA in either game attendance or TV revenue. They need to expand, so why not China.
