Dish Network Sued by the Federal Government

The federal government is apparently serious about the Do Not Call Registry. Nearly 170 million phone numbers are on the national DNC registry, which works as a list of numbers that telemarketers aren’t allowed to contact. According to the Federal Trade Commission, Dish Network doesn’t have much respect for that list.

The FTC says that in excess of 20,000 complaints have been recorded that say Dish Network is in violation of the law. While other companies have paid fines due to violations, Dish Network is the first company to get sued.

Dish Network, which is one of the top two satellite television providers in the United States, has said that they are innocent in this matter. In fact, the company says they rejected the FTC’s attempts to settle the case.

Any company that violates the Do Not Call Registry could be fine more than $15,000 for each call. That means Dish Network could be fined more than $300 million if the suit is successful.
