Disneyland and Networking

sleeping-beauty-with-prince-nc What does the Happiest Place On Earth™ have to do with networking?

Disney character actors have to go through training in order to be the character. Each Cinderella signs autographs the same way, each Sleeping Beauty wears the same makeup. They’re trained so they smile as close to exactly the same as possible. It’s intense.

While you don’t have to be that intense, you should have the demeanor of any of the Disney Characters as you drift through a networking event. Knowing people want to get to know you, you should have a smile on your face and a song in your heart!

Okay, maybe the song in your heart is a little overkill, who am I to judge. *grin*

Your message should be the same as well. I’m not saying throw out a rehearsed, canned elevator speech, that’s for the birds. I propose you make sure your message is clear to you and then take a unique approach to everyone you meet while making sure your core message is communicated no matter who you’re speaking with.

In this way your autograph will be the same for every person you meet, and when they communicate that message down the line to someone else, your core message is the part that will get reflected, no matter who is singing your praises.
