Do You Choke?

When the conversation turns to you do you clam up?

It’s far easier for a non-talker to take that first step toward a little shameless self-promotion than it is for a natural talker to learn when and how to stop.

Remember, people do care
Afraid to talk because you’re afraid you’ll get dissed or made fun of or brushed off? Remember that people are out there to talk to other people. Networking online or offline is about people getting to know people.

You’re people too!

You don’t have to know everything
Many people keep their lips zipped because they don’t think they know enough to make an impact. They’re afraid what they say will be stupid or dumb. Self-esteem issues aside (even though you really should take a look at those at some point) you’re no dumber or stupider than the rest of us. Your experiences make your opinion unique. Even if you’re just agreeing with someone else, say why you agree. Your reasoning could really help someone out.

Just have one sentence prepared
You don’t have to have a speech ready before you open your mouth and talk to someone. Just have a starter sentence ready. Anything from, "What do you do?" To a one sentence explanation of what YOU do can be all you need to get the ball rolling.
