Doing business better with Web 2.0

New generations of internet technology are definitely making it mainstream – McKinsey recently weighed in on the usage of new media and Web 2.0 for business.

From a branding perspective, they’ve highlighted that the interactivity of Web 2.0 taps consumer involvement that would otherwise be missing. Managing it requires extra work from a business perspective but the gains can outweigh the costs.

Here’s their six ways to make Web 2.0 work:

  1. The transformation to a bottom-up culture needs help from the top.
  2. The best uses come from users – but they require help to scale.
  3. What’s in the workflow is what gets used.
  4. Appeal to the participants’ egos and needs – not just their wallets.
  5. The right solution comes from the right participants.
  6. Balance the top-down and self-management of risk.

But Web 2.0 is quickly going to be taken over by new technologies.

We’re still adapting to conducting business differently, but Cisco is now pronouncing the introduction of 4G and Web 3.0 – check out the possibilities:

  1. Katherine, we thank you for your thoughtful mention of the latest Cisco efforts to inform our mainstream stakeholders — particularly those who appreciate our use of creative analogies to simplify an otherwise complex topic — such as the role of IP in 4G wireless broadband networks.

Please continue to monitor our progress, and share your perspective.

    David @ Cisco
