The Buffalo Bills were in need of running back depth and addressed that need by signing veteran running back Dominic Rhodes to a two-year contract. Rhodes spent last season with the Indianapolis Colts.

With starting running back Marshawn Lynch suspended for the first three games of the 2009 NFL season and backup running back Fred Jackson in a contract dispute, the Bills needed a veteran back who could at least be a placeholder. In Rhodes, Buffalo got a running back with big game experience who has been relatively successful the last few seasons.

Last season with the Colts, Rhodes rushed for 538 yards and six touchdowns. In 2006, Rhodes was the starting running back as the Colts won the Super Bowl.

The best year of Rhodes’ career came in his rookie campaign in 2001. That season, he rushed for a career-high 1,104 yards for a career-high nine touchdowns.

I knew Ben Utecht could sing and saw him perform while he was with the Colts. I didn’t know Dominic had the pipes though. There’s part of me that will miss him like I did when he went to the Raiders, but I’m just not sure about his overall, reliable impact to the team.
