It’s unclear weather the incident was planned or not. Sure the so called “trainwreck” was a bit underwhelming, but it is still a hillarious clip. Personally i think it wasn’t planned because it seemed like Branson didn’t expect Stephen to retalliate. In all it was clear Branson had never seen one second of the Colbert Report, and therefore presented himself poorly. Still one of the best interview moments on the Report.

I was disappointed with the interview…I thought it was going to much bigger than it turned out to be.

Yes, Doug, the new airline is Virgin America but the inaugural plane is Air Colbert, named for Stephen Colbert. Here’s a link showing the christening:

I don’t get the Air Colbert reference? I thought the airline was called Virgin America? Or is that the point that I’m confused about?

Branson is known for stunts of all sorts and being like that. In the UK, from what I’ve heard, he is basically a god. He isn’t nearly as well known in the US, and this probably was not a good early step.
