NOTE from Phil: I got to interview Chester a few weeks back. I am still planning to share the interview with you once I get the audio transcribed.

What’s the BEST WAY you’ve heard someone say thank you in your company?
Well, it’s not only the action but the personal joy behind it. My favorite was a handwritten note from my manager with two movie tickets enclosed. Not expensive, but very meaningful. Second would be recognition in front of the department with an explanation of what I had done. Tied with that was the time we nominated our top support analyst for HDI Analyst of the Year (total surprise to her) and she won, got a lunch and industry recognition!
I loved this video!
That video was really powerful; I never really thought about it that way. I know just the person to send this on to, as well!
My department says “thank you” in a variety of different ways. Gift cards to local bookstores or coffee shops, praise at department meetings, or sometimes it’s just a small gesture of buying me a coffee. My favourite way that my manager thanks me though, is by offering me first pick of the new projects coming up. Not only does this give me time off of the helpdesk phone but I get to pick what I spend my time on. I feel appreciated AND respected at the same time. Nothing makes me feel happier to work where I am than that.
The best way to say thank you is just to say, “Thank you. I appreciate your work” and truly mean it. Nothing beats a sincere expression of gratitude.
say thank you with your eyes and heart.
