Downloaded and Installed Internet Explorer 8 Beta

Internet-Explorer-8-Beta

Seems to be the week for testing new browsers I guess. I wasn’t really impressed much with my experience with Google’s Chrome browser, and I wasn’t expecting much earth-shattering changes out of Internet Explorer 8.

My first frustration with IE8 is that the Google Toolbar isn’t working so that’s disabled. That for me means that all my bookmarks are disabled and not available because I don’t store bookmarks in the browsers themselves.

Working through some of the new features like web slices and accelerators, I’ll give a bit more of a detailed report once I play around some more with this version.

It’s interesting to compare IE8 with Chrome. They take very different approaches to the idea of the “next generation browser”.

From a developers perspective, it means two more browsers to support, with yet more rendering engines. Here’s a quick rundown of IE8:

There are alternatives to Google Bookmarks you know. Live Favorites is really simple and does the job too. Browser sync is available in its own Live Toolbar (which I actually like!).

Interesting how Chrome and IE8 are kinda similar in some areas…
