Gary Gygax

The WoW-spoiled kids and Final Fantasy fangirls of today might not know this, but the whole roleplaying game genre owes its entire existence to Dungeons and Dragons creator Gary Gygax. That’s why everyone who’s ever played any kind of RPG, online or offline, should note the man’s passing.

Thank you for giving people a way to play out their high fantasies together, Gary. I’m glad you lived long enough to see the Internet transform multiplayer RPGs from closet nerdiness to celebrity cool. Technology connected people’s fantasies, but you wrote the first protocol for that connection. I will lead my guildies through an extremely difficult Guild Wars dungeon in your honor.
