At a DuPont plant in the city of Fayetteville, North Carolina, the company is offering early retirement on a voluntary basis — according to a report in the Fayetteville Observer.
DuPont, which is reportedly making this move to help survive the current economic downturn, has given employees the option to receive the pension benefits they’ve accrued and retire now. Those who decide to remain on the job will get a guarantee on the number of hours they’ll work next year in addition to receiving a signing bonus.
In total, the DuPont plant in Fayetteville has a total of approximately 700 full-time workers and contractors. However, only the full-time workers are eligible for this early retirement offer.
DuPont expects each worker to make a decision on whether or not to take the early retirement offer within the next 45 days.
In total, DuPont is believed to have more than 50,000 employees around the world.
