E20 – E30 offers better mpg, fewer emissions

Granted, this study was done, in part, by ACE – the American Coalition for Ethanol – but the U.S. Department of Energy also put in their 2 cents. Research supposedly shows that midrange ethanol mixes offer better gas mileage and fewer emissions than unleaded gas.

Recently, another study in Minnesota showed that E20 can be used in regular automobiles without damaging internal components BUT TO BE FAIR they only looked at roughly 80 cars over the course of ONE year. The automobile association still claims higher ethanol contents will damage autos that haven’t been designed to run on it.

Minnesota has already said they’re standards for 2013 will call for E20 at every pump IF the EPA approves it as gasoline. Personally, I think they need a much longer study since most of us use our cars for longer than one year.
