Eidos Generates The Quickening
There’s just something about a big Scotsman with a big sword that will always get two thumbs up from the action loving masses. Let’s hope that the MacLeod saga, so beloved for decades on the big and small screen in the Highlander series, translates well to the video game world.
Eidos is planning on releasing HIGHLANDER for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 sometime this year. To lend credibility to the project, they’ve managed to snag David Abramowitz, who penned the cult classic television series, and licensed the games industry heavyweight Unreal Engine 3 to bring the world of Owen MacLeod to life.
Eidos’ Development Director Darren Barnett thinks that Highlander lends itself particularly well to gaming, saying:
“HIGHLANDER itself is a cult classic. Practically everyone has heard of it and we wanted to offer the first ever next-generation videogame of the franchise. Having a central character that is immortal and has roamed the earth for 2000 years opens up so many gameplay opportunities in terms of story, environments, predicaments and enemies – HIGHLANDER is a thrilling adventure for both fans of the franchise and fans of explosive, fast-paced third person action games.”
Scotland or bust? Please don’t let them destroy this one…
