Eli and the 97.5 million reasons

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Eli Manning just seems to find ways to show up big brother Peyton Manning and they both seem to outdo their father, Archie, who was a pretty good NFL quarterback in his time. Remember when Peyton won his first Super Bowl after 8 years in the NFL, well Eli went right out and won one himself after 4 years in the NFL.

Now we have Eli signing a mega million dollar contract that will make him the highest paid quarterback in the league. That is right; he will make more than Peyton. It seems kind of crazy, because there is no comparing the two of them and please, Giant fans, disagree if you must, but Peyton is the better quarterback. Not that Eli is a bad quarterback, far from it; after all, he made the Pro Bowl last year and took the Giants to a 12 win season.

Manning’s deal would average out to about $15.3 million over the next seven seasons, the biggest per-year long-term contract in the NFL today. Julius Peppers signed a one-year tender with the Carolina Panthers that will pay him over $16.7 million in 2009, the only player whose current deal would have a higher average base salary.

Money Manning
What will a Super Bowl MVP award and a Pro Bowl selection get you? For Eli Manning, $97.5 million. A look at the career numbers of the Giants’ star QB:

Manning’s older brother, Peyton, earns an average of $14.17 million annually with the Indianapolis Colts.

Giants general manager Jerry Reese said that a new contract would not put more pressure on Manning.

You have to laugh at that last mention of no additional pressure. Are you kidding me? Of course, it puts more pressure on Eli. Let’s just hope he can deal with it and bring another Super Bowl to New York.
