Enough iPhone 3G Hype!

Before anything else, let’s make one thing clear: I do not dislike the iPhone 3G. Unlike its predecessor, it delivers many of the standard features of today’s smartphones, for a surprisingly low price.
Unlike its predecessor, it actually supports third-party apps. Admittedly, it will only support Steve-approved apps, but sacrificing flexibility for stability is simply the Apple way.
The only reasons I’m not getting an iPhone 3G are its lack of MMS and video. Girls like to send me pictures, and I love capturing their crazy moments.
What I really dislike — and this is true of all Apple products — are all the ridiculous claims surrounding the iPhone 3G. It all started with the keynote announcement on Monday, where Steve Jobs kept naming standard smartphone features as if they were new. Hell, he talks like he invented 3G.
Then came the ridiculous claims from Apple fanboys — that the iPhone will kill GPS manufacturers, that the iPhone will be the next PC, that Nokia should be shaking in its boots, etc. It got so bad, I could barely read any tech news this week without retching.
I don’t know what rock these Apple fanboys have been living under, but the iPhone 3G delivers absolutely no new technology. In fact, it lacks some existing technology. SoftBank will have a tough time selling this puppy in feature-happy Japan.
It’s a decent smartphone. That’s it.
