Vancouver-based EQO Communications, which makes mobile instant-messaging technology , has raised $9-million in venture capital from Ventures West, GrowthWorks and BDC Capital. “EQO is revolutionizing the mobile experience, bringing the best of the web, Instant Messaging and Voice-Over-IP to everyday consumer handsets,” said Sam Znaimer, Senior Vice President, Ventures West. “They have a clear vision for Mobile 2.0, galvanized by enthusiastic users around the world.”
Update: This must be a big deal – or a slow news day – because the VC deal has been covered by TechCrunch, GIgaOm and Mashable. I’ve never seen the Big Three cover a Canadian VC deal before.
