I saw this post on the front page of Yahoo! Sports this a.m. and thought to myself, “that is so cool!”
You probably have no idea who Eri Yoshida is and, really, I didn’t either until I read the article.
Yoshida is a 16-year-old Japanese school girl who was recently drafted to play professional baseball in a new Japanese pro league. She’s a right-hander who is only 5 feet and 114 pounds, throws a sidearm knuckleball and is a big fan of Boston Red Sox knuckleballer Tim Wakefield.
Apparently, Yoshida threw a hitless inning against male batters during a tryout this month and was among 33 players picked in the draft.
Now that’s awesome!

Good for her. People might say this is all a publicity stunt – it might be, but her being a knuckleball pitcher, her chance of success is quite high in my opinion. my thoughts http://jib-sports-culture.blogspot.com/2008/11/16-year-old-girl-drafted-by-pro.html
I think it is awesome that a female gets to play with the boys and so young, I hope she does well because if she does it will make other leagues look at women differently. We are not just cheerleaders.
