ESPN Breaks Down Online Poker Tells

ESPN Poker features a weekly segment where “gurus” in the field chime in on some point or another. This week the conversation centered on online poker tells. I’ll grant this discussion is no cupcake to conjure up (think about how many online tells there are), but ultimately I’m going to downgrade this dialogue to C+ scale.

The unsurprising conclusion is that the biggest tell is bet timing. Wow didn’t see that one coming. However, I did notice two nuggets that I found to be at least funny and sometimes true from the panel.
“Anyone who has a picture of their baby as their avatar is terrible at poker. It sounds like a joke, but I’d say this is accurate like 95 percent of the time.”
This one’s funny because it’s true and because it’s funny. The dad/moms that play with their kids as representation are usually horrible. They may as well Paypal you the money before the match starts.
“Players with a name and a bunch of numbers afterward tend not to be very good. For example, “Tony743624″ is most likely a novice player.”
Haven’t noticed this one to the same degree but I’d give this my nod. I think the Rob76199387 types tend to be less sophisticated and smart. Think about it, the more refined person isn’t going to limit themselves to name+#######.
Another debate within the chat evolved into what is a tell online. KISS. Whatever gives you info on how they play.
