Ethan Allen to Shut Down California Plant

Ethan Allen gave California some more bad news on Wednesday when it announced that it was closing down its upholstery plant in the state. California, which has been hit hard in the national economic downturn, will lose about five dozen jobs and nearly 140 contracted workers.

The plant, which was located in Chino, California, will be moved to Maiden, North Carolina. Ethan Allen already has a plant in the city. With this move, their employees in that plant will rise from about 540 to approximately 840.

Ethan Allen is a company that was founded in 1932 and is currently headquartered in Danbury, Connecticut. A furniture chain, Ethan Allen has more than 250 stores across North America. In 2008, the company had nearly $1 billion in revenue.

Over the last few years, Ethan Allen has made moves to streamline their business model. The closing of this California plant is another move in that effort.
