Ever Been Invited to a Skype Interview?
It seems like every few minutes some fancy new Internet rage is born. Have you heard of Skype? It is basically a video to video conferencing service.
Skype has been around since 2003 (wow, where have I been?) but I only learned about it a few months ago when Oprah used it for her big online class that she and Eckhart Tolley taught based on his newest book A New Earth.
The download is free. It’s simple, if they have Skype and you have Skype, the calls are free. You can also use Skype to call landlines using prepaid or monthly subscription plans.
Skype could really revolutionize the interviewing process. In fact, I sure wish it had been around back when I was trying to relocate to Chicago. Unless you are interviewing for a position that’s pretty high paying and hard to fill, it’s difficult to get a company to fly you in for the interview. When I was in Tennessee looking for a job in Chicago, I didn’t get a single call for an interview until I started including dates for a planned trip where I’d already be in the area in my cover letters. With Skype, you can pretty much be face-to-face without all those costly travel expenses.
Does anybody know of any companies that are using Skype for the interview process? We’d love to hear about it. The more we talk about it, the better chance that businesses will incorporate this technology into their hiring practices.

I’m based in England, UK and just today was invited for a Skype video interview for an academic job in the USA. It makes sense and there are a couple of useful tips articles on the internet about video interviews.
