Tipler's argument against ETI is rock-solid. The burden of proof is always on the shoulders of the believers. The main body of evolutionists also agree with Tipler.
In short, SETI/exobiology/whatever-you-wanna-call-it is no more than one of Carl Sagan's masturbatory fantasies!

This is an interesting development. John Wheeler's strong cosmological interpretation of the anthropic principle seems to have been given a big boost:

http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/315/5814/966

The paper was mentioned in an article by Robert Lanza, a stem cell researcher, who, like me, has come out advocating a biocentric approach to the fine-tuning problem, gravity, and the theory of everything, for reasons that are not clear:

The nuts on the web are making every ill-informed and stereotypically false statement possible about this rift in their meaningless worldview.

Yes I agree. From what I know of Tipler, he had a strong political agenda. I read somewhere that Tipler reported the SETI program, strongly endorsed by Sagan, et al, to William Proxmire's Golden Fleece committee for wasting the taxpayers money.

Proxmire awarded the SETI program with the Golden Fleece, and that resulted in a funding cut for about a year, after which it was re-instated.

I forget what the reason was, but Proxmire didn't object the following year when it came time to renew SETI's funding.

Anyway, Tipler did seem to have a chip on his shoulder...

Yeah, Tipler doesn't account for the golilocks enigma, which is an extremely important feature of the anthropic physics.

Case in point:
Paul Davies is a major player in the Seti Search. Note the contradiction.

Another case in point:
Even Richard Dawkins knows what the goldilocks zone is. Note the contradiction.

Frank Tipler acts like he doesn't know the most important feature of the physics that he and John Barrow researched.

A lot of his stuff seems to be motivated by something other than science.
