EyeTV: An Awesome App

Here at the b5 tech channel, we’ve decided to do a theme day, and the theme this time around is our favorite application that we can’t live
without. Well, being an HDTV buff here and a Mac user, I naturally bought the Elgato Hybrid Tuner and EyeTV, so I am putting EyeTV as my application I can’t live without.
EyeTV is one of the simplest DVR programs on the market for consumers because it’s really a one-click interface. Want to record a program that you see on the guide? Click the red circle. Want to watch a recorded program? Double click the program to start it. It’s truly simplicity at it’s finest.
EyeTV can also export to a variety of formats that can play back on your iPod, Apple TV, or any other device that does not support the native .EyeTV format. Even though HDTV files are huge in size and aren’t in a wide format, this means that your signal is uncompressed, meaning that you get the full clarity as the broadcaster intended. EyeTV can support OTA HDTV, as well, now, as Clear QAM over cable providers who support the profile.

If you have a Mac or are thinking of getting a Mac, I cannot recommend EyeTV highly enough. The EyeTV application costs $79.99 for new users and EyeTV 1.x users while EyeTV 2 users can upgrade for $39.99. If you buy an Elgato tuner though, you will automatically get a license of EyeTV 3 with the product. In an upcoming post, I will be reviewing EyeTV 3, so stay tuned for that.
