Facebook as a recruiting tool for colleges and universities-what about employers?

Got to this post, via Twitter btw, talking about universities like Mount Allison who are building Facebook groups for prospective students.  The idea is that prospective students and chat with others interested in going there and, I assume, current students and alumni (the cynic in my figures that admissions is going to try to stack the deck with folks with positive things to say).  Good idea, why not.  If you’re in high school and looking for a place to go to school afterward, wouldn’t you want more than the basic college tour?  Why Canada?  These stats tell the tale:

Of the more than 59 million active users, over 7 million are Canadian. Is Facebook a viable place for universities to recruit students? Source: Fade to Play » Canadian universities are recruiting via Facebook

Like Twitter, Canadians are on Facebook in droves.  Now here is an extension to recruiting for university via Facebook-what about employers.  Sure, target all those upcoming grads with Facebook groups on why it would be great if they joined one company or another.  Slice of life, chat with employees, look at the benefits, etc.

Would this work or become too spammy?

Truth be told, I think Facebook has jumped the shark.  Not the idea or concept or service it represents, but Facebook as a tool.  Sure it will still be huge in 08, but I think it has had its peak and will see a downslide now.  Even though I just read about this interesting FB app called GIGYA which might let me put a BlogTalkRadio show on my FB profile, I think it’s too little too late.
