Despite widespread economic uncertainty, social networking giant Facebook has shown no fear when it comes to expanding. While other companies continue to cut costs and slim down their employment, Facebook hopes to hire an additional 200 employees by the end of the year and has already snatched up several big-name industry players in the process.
So far, Facebook has lured Arturo Bejar, former Yahoo! security team leader that will now serve as Facebook’s director of engineering, and David Recordon, former employee and of blogging software maker Six Apart and one of the developers of the OpenID authentication software. Former Genentech CFO David Ebersman will perform the same duties for Facebook, while senior engineer and Google expat Greg Badros will serve as an engineering director.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has referred to the recession as an excellent time for his company to hire plenty of talented engineers and managers, those who may have been stuck without a job due to the weak economy. Facebook recently planned to expand its employment by 40 to 50 percent as the already-huge company continues to grow.
