My friend Vic was so annoyed when his newly bought Windows Vista laptop would start with the following message: Failed to Load Control: SocketXCTl from Socket.OCX.
There were already so many security updates released by Microsoft and sometimes, vendors do not update the laptops they are selling to the latest updates and as such when you connect your computer at home it is open for vulnerabilities.
You can do a search on “emco malware destroyer” as this fixed my friend’s problem.

This is to do with your IP address. I assume you have set up a static ip address. If you use dynamic it will fix this. I am assuming you know the pros and cons of dynamic vs static ip
i have the same problem also! it is so annoying! how can i take this out?
I have this same problem on an XP Pro Desktop on a Dynamic IP. Any constructive fix anyone?
i had the same problem with my pc- windows xp sp2 installed.and somehow i found that the annoying message box started to appear after i installed my antivirus software. i searched the internet about this message and found a solution,so thought id share here although it mine in XP. but i think it’ll work on Vista too.
Using the Registry Editor (regedit.exe), look under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run for a value named “DSS”. If it’s there, delete it, restart your system. im free from the annoying message.thanks to PCMag forum.
please i am having same problem with the socket DNS message on my window Xp. But i dont see the path you just gave.
please can you assist me again on this.
Thank you huchein! I had exactly the same problem with Windows XP Pro… Removing that “DSS” value resolved the problem right away! Cheers!
