Favorite Moments As An Ohio State Buckeye Fan

If you don’t know, I am a Buckeye fan. I bleed scarlet and gray. I don’t give a darn about the whole state of Michigan. Yada Yada Yada. All of that mess, I embrace it.

I moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1998 to attend The Ohio State University and I fell in love deeper and deeper every moment I was there. If not for this university, I would not have found my true love for sports and I would not be writing this right now. So you can thank the Buckeyes for that. And to show my love and thank you to the Buckeyes, I would like to let everyone in on some of my favorite memories they’ve given me.

  • 1998 Ohio State 31 – Michigan 16. Before moving to Columbus, I was rarely able to watch The Rivalry because of being apart of the band. That day was our Santa Parade. So I was rather excited to watch the Buckeyes from beginning to end against Michigan. And I wasn’t disappointed. From Joe Germaine to David Boston to Antoine Winfield to Andy Katzenmoyer. Is it wrong of me to think this team is the biggest underachiever since moving to Columbus? Yes only one loss but to Michigan State. And that game left them out of the BCS Championship game. Yes, I’m still reeling over that.
  • Final Four 1999. I still don’t care what the NCAA says, they CAN NOT take this away from me. After being hurt by the football team (see above), it was so beautiful what they did. They lifted my spirits. From Scoonie Penn to Michael Redd and their Cinderella status we just knew they couldn’t be beat. Well that wasn’t the case. They loss to the would be champions UCONN but they overachieved that season and I will always be grateful for it.
  • Holy Buckeye! For certain games we all remember exactly where we were and what we were doing. I was watching the game with my grandmother (got her to love the Buckeyes too) sitting on her bed and she was in her chair. My heart was going crazy nonstop. Words can not describe that play. We must go to the video:
  • 2002 National Champions. 13 point underdogs. They started the season ranked #13. The game was to be played on 1/3. Maurice Clarrett’s # was 13. Did you really not see it coming? Once again we need to go to the tape.
  • Final Four 2007. Gred Oden, Michael Conley, Othello Hunter, Da’Quan Cook, and David Lighty. The Thad 5. They were suppose to live up to expectations and they did. With the help of the veterans Ron Lewis, Jamar Butler and Ivan Harris they came back on Xavier and Tennessee when they needed to. They made it to the national championship game but lost to Florida. Since the NCAA “legally” took away the 1999 Final Four from me, I was happy to get one “legally” back.

I love writing about Ohio State over at TSD Mag and I also love reading about them. Here are some great sites that also bleed scarlet and gray: Eleven Warriors, Our Honor Defend, Around The Oval, Buckeye Commentary and Men of The Scarlet and Gray.
