Fear Not Duke Fans! Basketball Season Is Just Around The Corner

Is there anyone out there in college sports land happier to see the start of the college basketball season and the end of football season more than a Duke University fan?
The October issue of Maxim magazine rated the Blue Devils as the worst college football team in the nation. The school which is a fixture in the NCAA college basketball tournament and has numerous conference championships, Final Four appearances and NCAA titles, has to suffer through three or four lousy months of college football every year to get to basketball season.
The only other school that probably can’t wait for basketball season to start is UCLA, which was pounded 59-0 by BYU in football last weekend.

What’s with all the Duke bashing? The football team is 2-1, and WR Eron Riley is a heisman hopeful. This team has been ranked ahead of Michigan.
are you kidding me? coach cut is turning things around. this is only his first year and there’s a huge improvement. i hear people actually go to the games
when you’ve got the best basketball program in the country over the past 20 years (ESPN #1 baby), i can’t blame them
Dude, Eron Riley is gonna win the heisman.
Duke football is setting record numbers for attendance this year. Granted, that’s like the WNBA setting record numbers, but it’s still an achievement. People care. And Eron Riley is the best reciever in the ACC. Maybe not heisman because of Crabtree, but maybe.
Eron Riley’s season stats: 3 games, 19 receptions, 232 yards, 12.2 ypc, 5 (!!!!!!) touchdowns, 77.3 ypg.
Percy Harvin? 5 rush, 27 yards, 1 touchdown, 1 catch, 12 yards.
I’m just saying.
HE15MAN!
duke football is legit this year – one play away from undefeated in arguably the worst bcs conference. and duke bball hasn’t been anything to write home about recently – i think fans are really enjoying exceeding expectations
Duke will finish with 4 wins at the most this year
Maxim is great for 1 thing, and I’ll give a hint – it’s not college football rankings. For that we should go to a site such as SI: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/football/ncaa/09/16/extended.rankings2/index.html
Don’t forget QB Thad Lewis is the current NCAA leader for longest string of pass attempts without an interception, or that Eron Riley is tied for #2 in the nation for TDs among WRs (despite missing the majority of game 2). And in 3 games, they’ve tied the total wins from the last 3 seasons (2). Sounds like a Coach Cut is driving a football resurgence in Durham.
I guess you were right Ryan, but Duke was a 40 somethin yard field goal from beating wake forest, which wouldve given them 5 wins.
Duke Football is like Detroit Lion Football. Expect nothing and you will never be let down
