Fed Meeting Next Week, What to Expect

With the next Federal Reserve Meeting set to take place this upcoming week, many investors are left wondering what size of a rate cut will be announced.

Not even two weeks ago the market was expecting a half point cut, with a low probability chance at a three quarters cut. Now though it seems a three quarters cut is expected, and some are even nulling over the possibility of a full point cut.

Inflation was flat in February which supports the Feds taking aggressive action again by slashing rates further. But, is 100 basis points really likely? On the Chicago Board of Trade April future contracts ended the day Friday with a roughly 50% shot at a 100 basis point cut.

A cut of 75 basis points would bring the rate down to 2.25% (one basis point is 1/100th of a percent).
