Feedster Founder urges Microsoft to poach Open Source developers

In an interesting post on his personal blog, Feedster founder and CTO, Scott Johnson, has suggested that Microsoft should poach rival developers from the Open Source community. They are, he said, “as poor as church mice” and need to pay the mortgage and take care of growing families. Microsoft’s financial muscle could prize them from their altruistic activities in the cause of Redmond’s continuing viability.

He makes some interesting points about Open Source software. While server-side OS is king, client applications fall well behind their proprietary counterparts. He cites Firefox as a massive drain on memory. With 20 tabs open, he says, 125MB of memory is used, and when tabs are closed the RAM doesn’t free up as you would expect.

But his most controversial remarks concern the poaching of Open Source developers.
