Fighting Sioux Fight for “Fighting Sioux” with Suit

Following in the footsteps of the Florida St. Seminoles, Central Michigan Chippewas and the Utah Utes; the University of North Dakota is challenging the NCAA’s sanctions against Native American nicknames. All genius post titles aside, I think there’s a simple solution to these issues regarding teams with tribal names. The university and the tribes themselves should be able to work out a settlement allowing the school to use the name. If North Dakota wants the nickname, they should have to pay for it with free rides for Native American students. Most of the college names aren’t offensive if the modifier is dropped anyways. Really, the biggest offender is the Washington Redskins. Everytime I stop and think about it, I can’t believe that’s still the nickname for the pro football team in the nation’s capital.
