Finally a Victory for Robert Dee

It took a long time, three years worth of long, for Robert Dee to finally get his first victory as a professional tennis player. Dee was one loss short of tying the record of 55 consecutive losses when he notched the big W in Barcelona last week with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Arzhang Derakhshani.

Dee could have only been thinking one thing: finally. I’ve been through a few droughts, but three years is one helluva long time to keep the faith.

Dee’s “spectacular losing streak” began in Mexico at a challenger event in April 2005. No matter how you look at it, that’s a tough thing to swallow.

Here’s to sticking to something you love. Thankfully for Dee, he just managed to get his first win before reaching an unwanted milestone; something that would have prompted me to tell him to give up the ghost. Sometimes you got it, and sometimes you don’t. Dee was awfully close to the spectrum of “don’t”.
