Financial Crisis? Don’t Worry: The Lobbyists are Still Getting Paid

October 27, 2008 by Miranda Marquit

One of the groups that is likely to see job security as the economic and financial crisis continues is lobbyists. Why? Because interest groups always need someone to go to Washington and ask for money. And with more than $700 billion up for grabs (it’s going to go over that limit — you know it will), it is no surprise that everyone wants a piece of the action.

From regional banks to the auto industry to foreign banks to hedge funds to AIG, everyone wants some of that bailout pie. And why not? If the past two months is any indication, the government and the Fed just figures it will print more money. Actually, with the electronic system we have now, money is just sort of created by the government and the Fed saying it’s there.

So, with the high-paid power-brokers on Capitol Hill rubbing shoulders “our” representatives, how much of that taxpayer money do you think will actually benefit the taxpayers?

OMG! Miranda, you are becoming cynical! How can you doubt the good intentions of Goldman Sachs ex-CEO Henry Paulson in creating policy for the benefit of the average American. What makes you think that he would lean more to his friends and cronies than to us?

LOL. I know. It defies reason. After all, these people serve “we the people”, right? I’m sure I need better faith in them…

  3. Miki says:

Yes, you do. BTW, when you get that faith back in place I have a great buy on a bridge for you. It would look terrific in your back yard. The neighbors will be impressed and you can use our easy no interest ’til 2010 installment plan to pay for it.
