Firepay Call It Quits

Firepay

Firepay, a UK based online money exchanger, has apparently issued letter on discontinuing its services with effect from 10th of December 2007. (source: ReadwriteWeb)

“Effective Monday, December 10, 2007, FirePay will no longer allow funding, spending, or payment transactions. FirePay account holders will still be able to access their account to review their online statement, register and validate their bank account, and withdraw any existing balance free of charge for a 150-day period ending on Thursday, May 8, 2008. After this date the FirePay website will no longer allow account access and all further inquiries will have to be directed to FirePay via email at info@firepay.com. Any requests for withdrawal of a remaining balance after Thursday, May 8, 2008, will incur a $25 payment handling fee. Please sign in to your account now at www.firepay.com to confirm whether you have a balance and, if so, to initiate a free withdrawal.”

Unlike Paypal, Firepay has never really taken off despite claiming a huge userbase. I only remember they’re pretty popular with gambling sites as a funding option in my impression, and since US legislation has banned online gambling for their citizens, it probably did take some pounding there.

Nothing can be found officially on Firepay’s site yet, but google Firepay and you can see some of the online bloggers talking about Poker rooms having turmoils with acceptance of Firepay’s funds, users would have probably felt this coming.

I have been trying to contact Firepay for a few weeks now via their website. My bank account is cancelled and I now have a new one. The only way change accounts is through their email contact info@firepay.com . Through them I get no response. Am I out of luck (and my money)?

It was something that my company and a lot of other online retailers were never interested in working with, Paypal just had the market dominated.

  3. Benson says:

Stacy, have you tried giving them a call?
