Flight Simulator X

Over at fsplanet (link below) there are now screenshots of the upcoming Flight Simulator X from Microsoft. (Not to be confused with the X-Plane Flight Simulator from Laminar Research.) The screenshots look fantastic but I would like to see a comparison between the screenshot and a “real” photo of that same area.

Personally I would rather not see increased amounts of “eye candy” if it doesn’t actually represent the real area. When we can see the color of houses, roofs, and windows on the side of the homes it will become less real (my opinion) if those elements are auto generated rather than the actual conditions on the ground.

If that is the case then I wish they would have spent more time working in the flight model. From the “What’s new in Microsoft Flight Simulator X” section there are no improvements listed to the flight model, just a ton of new graphics and some additional multiplayer capabilities. They are so far behind X-Plane in the accuracy of their flight model I wish they would have spent more time on that then graphics. However it is for this reason that X-Plane is typically favored by real pilots and aircraft designers while Flight Simulator is favored by the mainstream public and gamers.

By looking at the FAQs they posted it appears it will be about a year before Flight Simulator X is released so don’t get your wallets out now.
