James “Flight” White has signed a multi-year deal with the Houston Rockets. Up until this point in White’s career, he is best known for being the YouTube dunking phenom. He got his “Flight” nickname for his ability to appear to be flying like a fighter jet through the air.
After beginning the season in the NBA Development League, White initially signed a pair of 10-day contracts with Houston. Apparently happy with what they saw, the Rockets not only signed him for the rest of the season, they signed him for next year as well.
Originally drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in the second round of the 2006 NBA Draft, he was immediately traded to the Indiana Pacers for three future second round picks. However, White wasn’t able to make the Pacers squad and was cut in preseason. Picked up by the San Antonio Spurs, White only played in six games as a rookie.
Last season, White spent much of the basketball season playing overseas. Playing in Turkey, White added to his YouTube fame by winning the slam dunk championship in country of Turkey.
An amazing athlete, White has the potential to be an NBA player. If he has refined his skills, Flight White has a chance to take off with the Rockets.
