Flu Season Approaches…

So I got my Flu shot today…for the second time. Why, you say? Because it was mandatory. As some of you may know I serve in the Army National Guard, for another two weeks anyway. I just had drill this weekend and our next drill is in two weeks. This is my last drill and then I’m finished with this circus of stupidity. Anyway, they didn’t tell us we were getting flu shots today and they said it was mandatory unless you had documentation showing that you already got it. Of course I didn’t bring the Blue Cross, Blue Shield papers with me because I didn’t know we were getting a damn flu shot…so instead of getting overly ticked off I just said to hell with it and took it anyway. So now my arm is sore and I’ll probably get sick next week. This is just another reason why I am not re-enlisting. After 11 years of active duty and two years in this rat race I’ve had enough!
Enough of my venting, flu season is fast approuching and Maggie Coerth-Baker of MSN’s Health And Fitness is telling us not to underestimate the flu this season. Here’s a short excerpt and you can read the full story by clicking the link at the bottom of the page.
Simultaneously ignored and incorrectly blamed for every little wintertime cough and cold, influenza leads an odd sort of double life. We know it’s common. Most people know it can be dangerous. And yet, most of us don’t take it seriously—at least, not seriously enough to get vaccinated against it.
“Most people are blissfully unaware of the annual death toll,” says Dr. Gregory Poland, professor of medicine and director of the Mayo Clinic’s vaccine research group. “We blow off influenza.”
Don’t Underestimate the Flu This Season
