Focusing on Outlook 12

Okay, I don’t mean to intentionally focus on everything that Paul Thurrott is doing, but it just seems that with his business interests, he’s continually delivering new information related to Microsoft and Office 12.

His recent article on Windows IT Pro focuses specifically on his experience thus far with Outlook 12.

Some of the topics he specifically focuses on are the new 4-pane view with “To Do”, RSS feeds, search.

I think all these developments are going to be great features, but the 4-pane view probably won’t be too efficient for me since I’m still using an old-school 19″ CRT. Paul says:

The four-column view has one problem: Although Outlook 2003’s three-column view arguably works fine on a standard 4:3 display, Outlook 12 will essentially require a widescreen display to work in four-column mode. Fortunately, my desktop and notebook computers both feature widescreen displays, and Outlook 12 looks gorgeous on them in full-screen mode.

Looks like that will exclude me for awhile. I’m still working on trying to get access to the Office 12 beta myself, I doubt the success of me getting a manufacturer to give me a widescreen LCD display to share how it works with Office 12 is in the near future.

I think the RSS integration is obviously a no-brainer given the news that Windows Vista will be incorporating it into the operating systems itself. My only question is whether or not I’ll give up the functionality and ease of having all my RSS feeds (currently up to 265, YIKES!!!) available online from any computer.
