Following Delta’s acquisition of Northwest, employees of both companies knew that there would be some job maneuverings. On Wednesday, Delta made a big splash by letting go five executives. Additionally, Delta said there could be future job cuts due to the airline deciding to limit their international flights.
The executives who were cut were Anna Schaefer, Tammy Lee Stanoch, Todd Anderson, Crystal Knotek and Laura Liu. Knotek and Anderson were in customer service, Liu was in international, Stanoch was in corporate affairs and Schaefer was a vice president of Northwest.
As with most businesses around the world, Delta blamed the job losses on the global economic downturn. With airlines in every neck of the woods losing millions upon millions of dollars, these latest job cuts come as little surprise.
Delta, which is based in the city of Atlanta, was founded in 1923. It is regarded as one of the largest airlines in the entire world. Currently, it’s estimated that Delta flies to more than 350 destinations around the globe. However, Delta is looking into possibly shrinking that number to eliminate any destinations that aren’t garnering the necessary traffic.
