There seems to be a trend emerging after films like Supersize Me captivated audiences – people are making and watching documentaries about food, how it is made and how it affects our bodies. ![]()
The most recent addition to this collection of films is Food, Inc. which takes a close look at food production in the United States. I haven’t seen it yet but, from what I’ve read, it looks like this movie shows audiences the price we actually pay in order to have low-cost food.
Of course, the large American food producers were pretty upset about the film and its accusations but I think this is one of those times where it is important for consumers to know what we are being sold.
I’m not completely sure I want to see it but I feel like I need to. I’ve been trying to avoid mass produced food over the past few years but it’s hard to cut it out completely. Hopefully, documentaries like this will push producers to use higher standards but I’m sure the bottom line will be more important than protecting the public in the end.
