For the love of the game(s)

Why do we do this? Why do we love sports?

It’s simple. It’s an outlet, it’s what’s brought me closer to my career. Hell, because of an injury playing sports, I became a journalist.

Back when I was in middle school, I was running a drill and severely damaged my knees. I was told subsequent injuries like the ones I suffered could prevent me from living a normal life, so I thought the closest way to stay to sports would be to write about them.

I had dreams of becoming a sports journalist, which turned into being a journalist — and here I am.

But my best sports memory (and why I will always remember my love of the games — especially baseball) takes me back to 1991.

My parents were divorced and my mom moved us to the big city. I remember watching my first baseball game from start-to-finish that year and becoming a Braves fan. In an effort to stay in tune to what I was doing, my mom started learning the game, too. Once the Braves made the playoffs (and even during the preceding division chase), we watched almost every game we could together.

Just being able to spend that time together with my mom at such an impressionable time in my life helped make me the man that I am today.

I enjoy the camaraderie of sports, I enjoy the way it brings people together than wouldn’t even normally talk to each other.

It’s not hard to replicate with other activities, but it still is fun to watch and play.

Why do you love sports? Why do you love women’s basketball? Comment and let us know.
