Ford CEO Offers To Work For $1 To Get D.C. Handout
Mulally Draws Line At Having To Drive A Taurus
After making $28 million for four months of work in 2006, Ford CEO Alan Mulally graciously offered to work for $1 next year if Washington lawmakers would help keep the company afloat for a few more years.
Citing the need for additional time to get “a really awesome golden parachute” in place, Mulally made the grandstanding gesture as Congress wavered on whether the Big Three had funneled enough money into their campaigns.
The head of the country’s long-declining automaker demurred when asked if, in addition to the salary cut, he would drive a Ford Taurus for a year.
“I’d have to think about it,” balked Mulally, “I really think I’ve sacrificed enough already.”
In other news, union officials showed their willingness to help the company secure additional taxpayer funds by offering to cut hourly worker pay by $1 to $74-an-hour or roughly 25 cents for each year of unfinished high school.
“Just to be clear,” a high-ranking labor organizer said, “None of these cuts apply to union officials, right?”
