Forget Mario Party! It’s Mario Politics!

Nintendo Gal posted this on her blog (which you should be reading if you’re not already) earlier today. It’s an advert for a Dutch political party based upon Super Mario Brothers. Not just loosely based on it mind, this thing has the music and sound effects right there in the advert.
I know nothing of the policies the party put forward, or what they stand for, but it seems an odd advert for a political group. In the UK we aren’t even allowed political adverts on our screens so I guess this is a double surprise for me…
Why Mario? Who are they trying to target? Its true that anyone who played SMB the first time round is an adult by now (I’m dead good at maths me), but when it comes to something like politics I know I’d rather hear about actual politics rather than “Remember this game? Of course you do, it’s dead popular right now and there’s nothing like mounting a bandwagon. We used to play this game when we were kids too, honest. VOTE FOR OUR GODDAMN PARTY.” It’s about as subtle as a claw hammer in the cochlea.
Nevermind, apparently they lost anyway.
