Foster tells Stafford about Calvin Johnson

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
This has turned into a gossip column, instead of a sports report. You know, he said and then she said and then he said back. Well, this time it is more than gossip, it is just a feeling people have about Calvin Johnson.
George Foster, a tackle on the Detroit Lions, told Matt Stafford all about Calvin Johnson. Calvin is awesome. Those are the Squibster’s words not George’s. Calvin caught 78 balls for over 1,300 yards playing for the hapless Lions. They used about 5 different worthless quarterbacks.

Calvin soars to bring down a touchdown against the Bears
So will the Lions agree with George Foster?
Even though ProFootballTalk.com has the Lions taking a tackle, here is hoping they defy that wisdom and go after a quarterback.
1. Detroit Lions: Eugene Monroe, tackle, Virginia.
Several weeks after our most recent mock draft, our opinion hasn’t changed. The Lions need to go with the position that has the lowest failure rate, and that’s left tackle.
It’s just their luck that there are several elite tackles from which to choose. So count on the Lions, when judged by hindsight, picking the wrong one.
But let’s ignore them for a moment and go with the Sporting News.
A winless team in a quarterback league needs, well, a quarterback first. Already armed with third-year wide receiver Johnson and second-year running back Kevin Smith, Stafford can provide the missing link in a promising “young triplets” nucleus.
Then there is Stafford himself. He looks as ready to be a good pro as Ryan was last year. He has shown all the right tools—a strong, accurate arm, mobility and intelligence. He got plenty of experience starting for an NFL-style offense at a big-time program in a very tough defensive conference.
For a quarterback, however, beyond the physical skills, it’s more about what you feel in the gut and whether he has “it.” When there is something intangible about a draft prospect you really like, well, that’s “it.”
Stafford has “it,” and if the Lions start the draft by taking him, it’s a sign they finally get it.
