If you are marketing a product or service, coupons are a very powerful tool at your disposal. While coupons seem to perform a simple task, their value to a savvy marketer is much greater than its represented discount to the customer.
Why is that the case? Here are five reasons why coupons are powerful:
1) Control
With a typical marketing campaign, you don’t have much control. You launch the campaign and sit back and hope for results. With coupons, you know your exact profit margins for each redeemed coupon and the overall risk is much less.
2) Cost
Coupons don’t have to cost much money to produce. In fact, they can be virtually free. How much does it cost to send coupons to an email list?
3) Less Pushy
Some forms of marketing can be considered pushy. For example, if you are walking down the street and someone gives you a flyer for a new restaurant, you probably feel like you just got the real life version spammed. But if someone gives you a coupon, it doesn’t hold as much of a negative connotation.
4) Flexible
A single coupon idea can be distributed by multiple means. You can give them to potential customers, current customers or current customers in the flesh, via snail mail, over the phone or electronically.
