Free Online Ways To Promote Your Book

book.jpgDream Jobs To Go has posted 8 Easy Online Ways to Market Your Book for Free by Regina Paul. Although I like the gist of her ideas, I do differ in some important ways.

For example, her first tip is ”Create a presence on the Web” but then she suggests using free web space. Every book author needs a website, but free web space is a mistake, particularly when you can have real space so cheaply, like at 1and1. I notice she’s moved her own website to someplace that allows her a real domain name.

I’m not sure how much good signing guest books does… we hardly see them anymore on websites, but if you do, her suggestions about including your own site is a good one.

She leaves out blogging – and blogging is now so easy to be almost a must for authors. In fact, a case can be made to make your book’s website a blog.

What I think is important about this article is not the details so much, as the general notion that there are lots of free, inexpensive and easy ways to promote your book online.

  1. Yes, Anne, blogging has become a very important way for authors to get noticed and get the word out about their books. Many writers have blogs rather than web sites, as you mention. Or they at least set the blog up first then decide whether or not they need a web site.

  2. Anne Wayman says:

in fact, blogs can substitute for websites … I haven’t done that, but I’ve seen it done

  3. Beck says:

And I certainly agree with this! However, the ebook needs to be of value however small it is and should be somewhat or completely exclusive instead of an aggregator of content from around the web. This you can find with the book First lady president which is a story of how such a figure might emerge as the first ever serious female candidate in a U.S. presidential election and How would her opponents challenge her in their election speeches, media interviews, and TV debates.

  4. I had a website at from day one of writing the book of the same name. I only recently started up a blog just prior to the books publication. The website has had over 60,000 visitors and many books were sold prior to the book launch from the site.

  5. Anne Wayman says:

good for you Sharon, why don’t you post the url here… maybe we can sell a few more books for you.

  6. Rev Suzan says:

I just recently self published my poetry book called Poetic Healing through Author house.

Can anyone assist me in how to self market myself and book.

  7. Anne Wayman says:

Rev Suzan, poetry is tough her than non-fiction… you probably want to market through alternative healers… there are lots of tips here in the Book Publishing/Marketing Category

and you can hire someone, but be careful there.
