Freelance Writers and Business Cards

freelance writers business cardsI just got my new business cards. The image you see here is the front. It’s the second time I’ve used the earth-from-space image. The first time I tried it, I couldn’t find anything that really seemed to say writing with vision to me so I decided I wanted to remind people we live on a small planet.

I got so many positive comments! People love the image and because they do, they pay, I think, a bit more attention to the print.

The other things that make this card work is the print is BIG. Yes, I had to pay extra, but I’m convinced it’s worth it. I don’t know why so many defaults, and not just on business cards, are tiny or almost tiny type. Even my young friends seem to like the ease of reading larger print.

Notice that the front has my name, really big, along with the phone number. I’d have liked the email address to be that size, but it didn’t fit.

The back, and yes, I also pay extra to use get the back of my cards printed, echoes the front, with a three word description of the kind of writing I do, and two more web addresses. Next time I’ll reprint the email on the back I think.

I use VistaPrint (yes, that’s an affiliate link which means if you order there I’ll make some small change) and I spent almost $40 which included two pdf proofs that I had someone double check for me.

(Last time I got business cards I spelled ghostwriter ghosterwriter, which was unique… but…

Here’s why I think every (yes, every) writer should have business cards:

* They are so very easy to hand out – almost everywhere
* Properly done, they quickly state not only who you are but what you do
* They provide an opportunity for additional communication
* Cards let people find you again
* A business card says you are a professional

You can read an article I wrote on the subject if you like.

Here, as promised, is the back:

Dang! That is a BEAUTIFUL business card. Mine is from Vista Print but it isn’t nearly as pretty or imaginative as yours is. I think I will have to redo mine! Your card is a great illustration of your creativity.

Thanks… the earth design is vistaprint’s … and the first time I used that one I blew it — I did pay the buck for a pdf print this time and had someone else double check spelling, etc… one friend wanted me to redesign it… I said no.
