Freelance Writers and Down Time

owleyes.jpgI’ve said it, and now Contract Worker is saying it, differently and well. The post is Freelancers Can Take a Break Anytime They Want, to which I say a big Amen!

Today turned out to be mostly a day off for me. Network and internet problems caused a great deal of frustration this morning and rather than fight it I ran off to get a hair cut and do some needed shopping. I thought I’d get back to writing, but I had a couple of personal phone messages when I got back and sure enough, spent close to a healing hour on those.

In about 40 minutes I’m taking part in a teleclass, which gives me just about enough time to do the dishes and some general picking up… and you know what? It’s been a productive day.

Sure, I’ve got a couple of big writing projects, but no immediate deadline pressure, so this was an ideal day to handle life instead of work. And my writing tomorrow will be better for it. Call it needed self-care and know you also deserve it.

Write well and often,
Anne Wayman

The BEST thing about being a freelance writer is that you are in control of your own time. And yes, that means we can take a day off now and again. I did the same thing yesterday–had lunch with my son and daughter and helped my Mom get her cat to the vet. Of course, I’m probably going to be working late tonight to make up for it, but who cares, I love the flexibility.

    Hi Anne,

You are so right. Whn you work from home, you have to be very flexible and not too hard on yourself if things don’t happen as planned.

Thanks for your great website; it’s so refreshing to hear people who think like me. I’ve recently begun freelancing almost exclusively and it can be VERY isolating. I intend to drop by frequently.

Greg, I too love it when people agree with me ;)
